Unusual Abstract & Modern Art Series: "Light & Reflection" by Lise Griffiths

I have recently been quite taken by the effect of reflections and light in various places such as stained glass windows, and sunlight on the sea. My recent series of acrylic artworks on canvas is entitled "Light and Reflection" and aims to capture the colours, radiation and and shine of certain soecific types of light. If we look carefully we can see so much darkness in the light, and so much lightness in the dark.

Following the success of the 3D Butterfly wall art pieces on Ebay last year, I have decided to sell them on Etsy, amongst other artwork pieces and photography. 

I have turned some of my travel photography into downloadable images with motivational and inspirational quotes that can be bought online and used however you like! Not only do they make great prints, there are so many other options online such as stickers, keyrings, canvas bags etc!

I have also got some great prints of my artwork and photograpgy made into cool stickers which are great for embellishing and making cards, writing letters, or generally using with your stationery.

Butterfly Painting & Artwork Frenzy! Card Toppers & Butterfly Art (For Sale!)

Since being asked by a friend to help out with wedding invitations, I have become a little bit addicted to making butterfly artwork. 

First of all I created a watercolour and ink butterfly for the wedding invites and realised I had spent too long on it to paint it another 30 times, so I got rows of them printed out on a couple of sheets and once I'd finished the wedding invites I didn't stop there! I made some card toppers, an unframed sort of collage, and a 3D collage in a really cool deep box frame! 

I have even put all of these on Ebay to sell for around £3.00 - £5.00 (see links below).

The butterfly artwork escapade has also led me into the realms of abstract and surreal art due to so much experimentation, which is fantastic for me as I usually confine myself to the limits of realism - landscapes and wildlife and such. I love working like this but I have found abstract art far more liberating and challenging all at once. To imagine and create something so brand new and impossible... Anyway, this new painting is a work in progress to check back in a few weeks to see the finished result!

Holiday to Argentina Inspires Quick Watercolour and Ink Vineyard Painting!

On the way up to Edinburgh for the weekend, looking out of the rain splattered window with a pencil in my hand, my thoughts drifted back to Mendoza, Argentina where my body had been two weeks ago... I started thinking of Mendoza's beloved sun-drenched vineyards with a backdrop of the sheer Andes, all framed by a bright blue sky. Ahh, the desert, the sun and the wine...

After we had got past Newcastle I had already completed this drawing and I felt a little better for it. Even if I wasn't going back in a hurry, I had something else to look at other than the rain pouring down in the Pennines (beautiful as the Northern English countryside is, seeing it spattered with rain so soon after a trip to Mendoza would have anyone's spirits a little low!)

Painting a Dream: An Artwork Comission for a Religious Article

Since recently starting this 'Capture a Dream' blog, I was asked by a close friend to paint his dream, for an article in 'The Friend' - A spritual Quaker magazine. He had no idea that I was starting this blog or what I was calling it...

As well as 'a strange coincidence' it also seems that this painting is meant to be. I have always been fascinated by dreams - my undergraduate Psychology dissertation was about dream themes and what causes them, and I absolutely love painting, so why not combine them? Well this really does...

My friend has recently been dealt some bad cards in life, and had a very mystic recurring dream (below). He writes for the spiritual Quaker magazine 'The Friend' sometimes and asked me to paint his dream to go with one of his articles.

A figure in the right foreground struggling on hands and knees over a grassy area towards a cast iron lattice work footbridge extending from a bank running lower right to mid-upper left, over what may be a river. The bridge disappears at its apex into what may be greyish fog or mist, swirling...

Since buying our new house I have had much more room to paint, and much more space to fill with paintings...! I have decided to sell paintings, artwork, and prints of them also.  Most original work is for sale, and some items are high quality giclee prints.

The most affordable paintings for sale are the (very affordable) and very varied 18 x 18cm oil pastel pictures at £15 each (See this page). There is an enormous variety and I am constantly adding new items. I have only added a small proportion of them so far, so come back regularly if you're interested in seeing more of these. These pictures are framed with white mountboard, however I have access to  perfectly fitting ready-made frames in various colours so contact me if you would like to buy a frame also.

The online store is on the main page and you can buy items quickly and easily through Google Checkout. I also accept paypal so you can contact me if you want to pay using that instead.

Using Art in Home Interiors to Disguise and Enhance

Interior Desgin - Using Artwork to Disguise an Electric Fuse Box in My Living Room!

I'm usually reluctant to put up my own artwork in my home too often, as I will only want to change it or add to it everytime I walk past it. This makes for very frustrating living!

However when we bought our new house, there was one thing we really hated (you have to give in to somethings with house-buying!) It was a fuse box RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE LIVING AREA! Who wants that there? And more importantly, who decides to put it there!?

Below is a before and after of the artwork I created:






























The fusebox stuck out much more than a regular canvas so I had to make a custom sort of 'box' from mountboard. I measured it all up, scored down the areas I wanted to fold, folded it in to make a box without a back, and secured it with heavy duty bonding tape. Below is a close-up of the artwork and the box it is painted on.


I had been wondering what sort of artwork to put up for ages, and I couldn't find anything I liked so I decided to paint it myself, then I couldn't thiink what to paint. The piece is inspired by Tibetan Prayer Flags that I saw in my world lonely planet book. I really want to go there someday, and the picture was so pretty, the flags were fluttering in the breeze and t hey were lovely bright colours just like my living room.






I am available to do any sort of bespoke artwork like this so if you need anything disguising or just want something similar please let me know and I will be happy to dicuss prices. My art is always for sale, even if I haven't painted it yet! :)
